Yoga in the loft
Yoga in the Loft is a gentle, inclusive offering held within the devotional space of the temple. It is not a gym, a studio brand, or a performance space—it is a place to breathe, to listen inwardly, and to reconnect with the body and heart in a way that supports steady spiritual life.
Our classes are suitable for all levels, including beginners, experienced practitioners, and those working with injury, stress, grief, or nervous-system sensitivity. The emphasis is on presence rather than achievement, continuity rather than intensity, and learning to move and breathe in a way that is sustainable for real life.
The Loft hosts small weekly programs facilitated by qualified and experienced practitioners who teach with care, humility, and attentiveness to the individual.
A Diverse and Welcoming Community
Situated in Rondebosch, close to the University of Cape Town, Yoga in the Loft naturally draws students from many walks of life.
People arrive for different reasons—stress relief, physical wellbeing, emotional support, curiosity, or spiritual grounding—and are met exactly where they are. No particular belief, background, or level of fitness is required.
Weekly Schedule
Mondays – Yin Yoga (Liezel)
6:30pm – 7:45pm
A slow, floor-based practice focused on deep release, stillness, building resilience, and nervous-system settling. Yin Yoga increases flexibility, supports joint health, fascia, and emotional processing, and is especially helpful for those feeling depleted or overstimulated.
Tuesdays – Pranayama & Hatha Flow (Murari)
6:00pm – 6:30pm – Pranayama
6:30pm – 7:45pm – Hatha Flow
The evening begins with guided breath practices to calm and regulate the system, followed by a grounded hatha flow that builds strength, mobility, and awareness without strain. Options are always given, and students are encouraged to honour their own pace.
Thursdays – Hatha Yoga (Gopali)
5:45pm – 6:45pm
A balanced hatha class exploring posture, breath, and mindful movement. The practice supports flexibility, stability, and quiet focus, suitable for a wide range of bodies and abilities.

Beyond the Weekly Classes
Several times a year, we host gatherings of like-minded souls, which may include gentle hikes, sound journeys, and special Yoga Days where we celebrate yoga in all its expressions and styles. These gatherings are an opportunity to connect beyond the mat, deepen relationships, and honour yoga as a living, shared practice rather than a technique.
The Spirit of the Loft
Yoga in the Loft exists to support devotional life, not compete with it. Many students are long-time community members; others arrive through yoga and later discover a deeper connection to spiritual practice. All are welcome.
The atmosphere is simple, respectful, and grounded. Mats, breath, bodies, and hearts—nothing more is required.
About our teachers:
Gopali: With two years of teaching experience, I guide students through Hatha, Vinyasa, and Yin yoga, weaving together movement, meditation, breathwork, and yoga nidra into a holistic practice. My classes are more than physical postures — they are spaces of connection, presence, and devotion.
Murari: Murari completed his Yoga Teacher Training in early 2015 and has served as the resident yoga teacher at the temple ever since. He currently teaches Hatha Flow yoga, Pranayama, and Meditation, alongside his role as a full-time temple priest.
